Why painting is different in Salinas
Salinas has mild weather, but it is seldom dry for long. Fog and low cloud come up the valley from Monterey Bay on summer nights and mornings. A northwest wind follows most afternoons and carries dust from the fields. Rain arrives mainly between November and March. Walls stay damp, mildew grows on shaded sides and dust clings to everything. Outside work has to fit into the dry, calm hours of the day.
The area we cover is varied. Toward Monterey, Pacific Grove and Marina, salt air and heavier fog add to the wear. Toward Gonzales and Soledad, the fog thins out and strong sun and heat take over. Houses differ as well: older wood-sided homes near Oldtown and in Maple Park, postwar houses in South Salinas and the Alisal, and stucco tracts in North Salinas. Homes built before 1978 may have lead in the old paint, which changes how scraping and sanding are done.
How we work
We begin with a free estimate. We walk through the job, take measurements and check the surfaces. The written quote that follows lists the prep, the paint and the price. Surface prep is included: patching, sanding, caulking and priming. We cover floors and furniture, apply two coats, clean up and end with a walk-through alongside you.
Most interior rooms take 1 to 2 days. A full exterior usually takes 3 to 5 days, depending on the weather.
